The Wellcome Trust is an independent charity funding research to improve human and animal health. Established in 1936 and with an endowment of around £15 billion, it is the UK's largest non-governmental source of funds for biomedical research.
The Trust spends about £650 million every year both in the UK and internationally achieving their mission: supporting and promoting research to improve the health of humans and animals. They support research in universities and other academic centres in the UK and in overseas locations as well as managing their own projects and initiatives.
