Infection

Infection ImageResearch in the Department of Infectious Diseases at HHNT includes several themes of particular relevance. The Hammersmith Organisational Model for Infection Prevention is an improvement programme that combines infection monitoring, with sophisticated data analysis in a framework of organisational accountability and development; a new system for surveillance and monitoring of infection for dialysis patients; integration of infection prevention with antibiotic control and monitoring antibiotic prescribing, an approach now widely emulated across the UK.

Research is at the very core of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunity. Translational Research taking ideas from the patient's bedside to the laboratory and then back to the patient is central to our approach.

Departmental interests are in three areas of clinical science:

* Academic Infectious Diseases
* Infection and Immunity
* International Medicine

Specific areas of interest range from tuberculosis through novel approaches in drug discovery to gram positive sepsis and hospital acquired infection.
