The Centre for Medication Safety & Service Quality

The Centre for Medication Safety and Service Quality (CMSSQ) is a joint initiative between the Pharmacy Department at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and The School of Pharmacy (SOP), University of London.
The CMSSQ has a significant research output, most of which focuses on medication safety. This is closely aligned with the research strategy of the Department of Practice and Policy at SOP, and with both national and international research agendas.
The CMSSQ annual report for 2008/09 describes the Centre's achievements and highlights in the last year.
Reseach areas
Recent research includes analyses of human factors issues in medication errors, an evaluation of an electronic prescribing / barcode administration system; the evaluation of smart infusion pumps; development and evaluation of an interactive medication safety teaching package; an evaluation of two automated dispensing systems; and the comparison of the impact on prescribing errors of two different electronic prescribing systems.
Staff
Bryony Dean Franklin is Director of the Centre; Ann Jacklin (Chief Pharmacist, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Visiting Professor, The School of Pharmacy) and Nick Barber (Head of Department, Department of Practice and Policy, The School of Pharmacy) are its co-chairs. Monsey Chan is employed as a research pharmacist and research and administrative support is provided by Bo Ye.
